the justice system
Exploring the justice system in this region is an integral part of our "Social Responsibility" pledge. It is important to remember that our laws and their authors are a continuously changing reflection of society today. In this section, we will highlight specific cases, laws and legislature that need to be addressed by us as a collective, conscience society. We do not address religious or political issues, and endeavor to remain as neutral and objective as possible.
Joseph Sledge Jr.
Joseph Sledge Jr. (born 1942) is an American man who was convicted of the murders of two women, Josephine and Aileen Davis, for which he was imprisoned for over 36 years before being exonerated by new DNA evidence. His case represents the longest duration of incarceration for a case that has been overturned by DNA evidence, and he is the longest-serving inmate to be exonerated in North Carolina. There is overwhelming evidence that police and prosecutors were aware of Mr Sledges innocence. We are exploring and challenging laws and legislature that offer the prosecutors in this case, immunity from prosecution of an apparent criminal act.
